OUR RELATIONSHIP
WITH

A Blaze of Feather

In 2024, LUNA TIDES was commissioned by alternative folk band A Blaze of Feather, founded by musician Mickey Smith, to film their headline performance at the iconic, clifftop Minack Theatre in Porthcurno, Cornwall.

The project involved working closely with the band and their team to plan coverage around the live show, ensuring we could capture the performance while working sensitively within the constraints of an open-air venue. From initial planning through to delivery, we worked collaboratively with the team to shape the production and create a visual record of an important moment for the band.

FEATURED WORK

  • The brief was to create a cinematic visual package that captured the scale and energy of the live performance while making the most of the unique setting.

The content needed to showcase the band alongside the dramatic Cornish landscape, the open-air atmosphere and the distinctive architecture of the venue. The challenge was to balance the immediacy of live event coverage with more considered, cinematic imagery, creating a collection of assets that felt authentic to the artist while capturing the sense of place that made the performance so distinctive.

  • Over two days, we took a documentary-led approach, combining multi-camera coverage of the live performance with natural, candid footage of the band and their supporting crew. We worked around the venue and wider Cornish coastline, looking for genuine moments rather than relying heavily on staged or directed shots.

This included capturing preparations, interactions between the band and crew, the audience experience and the atmosphere around the show. Alongside the performance coverage, these quieter moments helped build a more intimate and authentic picture of the event, while retaining the scale and energy of the live performance.

  • The project delivered a cinematic and authentic visual record of the performance, bringing together the energy of the live show with the atmosphere of the Minack Theatre and its Cornish surroundings.

The band received a varied library of promotional content capturing the performance, the people behind the show and the character of the location. The assets provided a flexible collection of material for use across social media, marketing campaigns and future promotional activity, extending the value of the production well beyond the original performance.
